What a radiation oncologist does

Many people have radiotherapy after a laryngectomy to lower the chance of the cancer coming back. The radiation oncologist decides the dose, plans exactly where the beams go, and sees you through the course, which is often given on weekdays over about six weeks.

They also help you manage side effects such as sore skin, a dry mouth, tiredness and stiffness in the neck.

Information is taken from public hospital and clinic profiles and was last checked in October 2026. Timings and contact details can change, so please confirm with the hospital before visiting.
