What a head and neck surgeon does

The head and neck surgeon plans and performs the total laryngectomy. This often includes removing nearby lymph nodes (a neck dissection), and sometimes fitting a voice prosthesis during the same operation.

After surgery, the surgeon keeps seeing you for regular check-ups, usually for at least five years, to watch your healing and look for any sign that the cancer has returned.

Information is taken from public hospital and clinic profiles and was last checked in October 2026. Timings and contact details can change, so please confirm with the hospital before visiting.
